Identifying associative cache sets (2012-03-20)Apparently, the way that was described in the tutorial for determining the set number for an associative cache is different from what was described in lecture and in the slides. Please use the calculation described in the slides to determine the set number in an n-way associative cache. For more information about this, see the following post in Piazza @123 Tutorial 9 solution correction (2012-03-20)In question 3, the first occurrence of memory address 11 was incorrectly identified as mapping to block 3. It should have mapped to block 2, and that would be a miss. The second occurrence of memory address 11 at the end of the sequence was correctly identified as mapping to block 2, but now it should be a hit. This correction and the regular expression correction have been included in an updated version of the solutions and posted the course website. Tutorial 9 solution correction (2012-03-19)The solution for question 5 should start with (0|1)* rather than 0*1*. An alternative solution is (0|1)*11. Sorry for the confusion. Assignment 5 correction has been posted (2012-03-15)A modified version of Assignment 5 has been posted. The files can be found under the assignments tab. There is a correction to question 1(c). The question should have asked for the mininum number of cycles for a cache miss, where the fully associative cache has a better performance than the 2-way cache. I apologize for the error.
