CS240: Data Structures and Data Management, Spring 2021
Testing/Exams

Online Format of Tests and Exams

Due to this term being online, there will be no in-person tests or exams. Instead of in-person midterm and final exams, there will be limited time midterm and final assessments somewhat similar to a cross between "traditional" exams and assignments. More information about the midterm and final assessments will be posted below when available.

We only mark what is submitted by the deadline. NO lates will be accepted. Only files submitted to the appropriate location will be accepted (emailed files will not be marked). Plan to submit early in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Crowdmark Note:

We will usually use Crowdmark for grading our exams and distributing midterm results to students. For this course (and many others) Crowdmark associates an exam with a student by their Quest Username (maximum 8 characters) @uwaterloo.ca email. When Crowdmark sends exam results to this email address it is resolved by your Mail Routing Address in WatIAM. If you have more then one email account in Crowdmark then you can merge the accounts so that all your Crowdmark assessments are visible under any of your Crowdmark accounts; follow account merging instructions.

Important: For all assignments, Quizzes, and other assessments, we will provide an academic integrity statement that students will be required to "sign" and submit to MarkUs when they start the component, or their mark will be zero on that component.

Final assessment

Instructions: Final Exam Instructions
Academic Integrity Declaration: Final-AID.txt Sign and submit to Markus before you download the final assessment questions.
Availability Start: Mon. Aug. 9, 2021, 9:00AM (EDT)
Availability End: Tues. Aug. 10, 2021, 9:00AM (EDT)
Time Allowed: 2.5 hours writing time + 1.5 hours file creation and submissions = 4 hours total
Website for viewing your personal exam start and end time : My Exam Time
General Logistics: The Final will be very similar to the Midterm in terms of procedures and requirements.
Access: Access to the questions will be through the protected files area (where sample assignment solutions are posted https://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cs240/protect/index.php). Note that the access system could become overloaded so you may have to try again later.
Your 4 hour timer begins when you access your copy of the exam. Do not use Crowdmark's timer unless you access the exam link in Crowdmark at the same time.
Content: Up to and including Module TBA, with emphasis on the second half.
Submission: Submit your question answers to Crowdmark. Each question's answer must start on a new page and be submitted to the proper question. There will be mark deductions for improperly submitted or illegible answers.
Submit you Academic Integrity Declaration (AID) .txt file to MarkUs.
Allowed Aids: This should be treated like an in-person exam and we prefer that you use no aids, but if you must, only use course provided materials. This is a time to test how much you understand the course content (understanding means you can DO the question without looking at materials/solutions).

Quizzes

Throughout the term, there will be short multiple choice tests on Learn to help both students and course staff assess how well students are understanding and keeping up with the material covered in lectures. These are to be done individually with no aid other than the course lectures/modules. Course staff will not help students with the quiz questions (or any of the midterm or final assessment questions).
