Newsgroups
The University of Waterloo provides a number of newsgroups which
may be accessed via the server news.uwaterloo.ca. There are
newsgroups that serve a variety of purposes beyond assistance in
a particular course, including:
- uw.test - Used for posting test messages. If you have
a need to make a test post to verify the operation of your newsreading
software, make it here instead of on one of the other newsgroups.
- uw.cs.partners - In courses where group work is allowed
or encouraged, this newsgroup should be used to look for partners so
you can avoid cluttering the course newsgroup with such requests.
Be sure to include the course in which you're looking for partners in
the subject line of your post so it's immediately clear for which course
you need a partner.
- uw.general - A broad-topic newsgroup dealing with
the university in general. The Daily Bulletin is regularly posted
and commented on here.
- uw.cs.ugrad - Features posts relevant to undergraduate
CS students, such as employer information sessions.
- uw.cscf.help - The gripe command posts to this
newsgroup; recent gripes and followup comments may be read here.
- uw.cs.csXXX - When XXX is replaced
by an appropriate number, this is the newsgroup for a particular CS
course if one exists.
Searching the subscription list on news.uwaterloo.ca will
show other newsgroups which may be of interest. While reading from
off-campus is normally allowed, posting from off-campus requires extra setup.
