All printing done at UW must be paid for. For this purpose, each student has a “XAS account” maintained by IST. For more information please see IST's XAS page. Students can print using Math Faculty (MFCF) printers by putting money on their XAS account and then printing as usual from Windows, Macintosh, or Unix.
To check that your XAS account has been set up and to see its current balance, you can use the query-account command from the Unix command line on student.math or student.cs, or use the Web version of the command (UWdir userid/password required). You can also use IST's XAS account inquiry page. Please note that money left in your XAS account at the end of the term will remain there indefinitely and will not disappear. You can use it at any time to pay for more printing on printers connected to the XAS system.
To add more money to your XAS account, take your WatCard to the hallway outside the CHIP (MC 1052) in MC. There is a terminal set up which allows you to transfer $5.00 at a time from your WatCard account to your XAS account. If you don't have money on your WatCard, you should first go to the WatCard office in SLC and put some money on it using cash, debit card, or credit card. WatCard money can also be used at on-campus Food Services locations and Retail Services outlets as well as selected off-campus establishments, not to mention vending machines and photocopiers campus-wide. Therefore, we recommend keeping a few dollars on your WatCard at all times.
If you run into any problems with your XAS account, you can visit the CHIP in MC 1052 and talk to the staff there. Normally this should not be necessary but the CHIP staff are there to help if you need them.
