About Stephen

My name is Stephen Whitmore, and I write games.

By day I'm most commonly known as your everyday Canadian student with an above-average interest in computer science, an avid passion for game development, and an all-around nice guy. By night -- well -- he's usually writing code. Or sleeping. He finds that a balanced combination of the two tends to yield best results. He'll probably talk in third-person for the remainder of this About page. He's always doing clever stuff like that.

Stephen is currently a student at the University of Waterloo, where he studies Computer Science with unwavering interest. He also runs the Beginners' group in the UofW Game Development Club as the Vice-President, helping spread the word to the masses about the virtues of developing games.

Writing games is something that Stephen has always had a passion for, ever since he was a youngster. At age 10, when his father plopped a shiny IBM 286 PC on his desk and he stumbled across a QuickBasic interpreter, it didn't take him long to realize that this was the kind of thing he could see himself doing for quite some time. Flash forward eleven years, and he still continues to do so, with no intent on stopping.

Throughout his years of programming and writing games, Stephen managed to assemble a handful of games that he considered his cream-of-the-crop, which can be viewed on the Completed Games section on the left side-bar. Although he has mostly focused his efforts in the 2D world of game development, he is always looking for opportunities to push forward further and further into the utterly fascinating world of 3D graphics. He hopes to get a position in the future working in the field of graphics programming, but that time still lies off yonder.

Outside of the engrossing world of programming, Stephen enjoys creative writing, reading fantasy novels, biking, music, anime, hanging out with friends, and delving in a good movie every now and then.

Contact

Stephen is always interested in meeting other game developers. If you're also a kinsman of the art of game development, consider dropping a comment or two in his journal. He's quite eager to discuss and banter. Even if you aren't a game developer, still be sure drop a comment in -- he's interested in hearing what you have to say!
