Course Description

The course introduces widely used and effective methods of data organization, focusing on data structures, algorithms, and the performance of these algorithms. Specific topics include priority queues, sorting, dictionaries, data structures for text processing.

Tutorial 12 Solution Posted (2018-12-05)

I have posted the solution to the tutorial 12 questions and you can find it on the tutorials page of the course website.

Extended Consulting Hours (2018-12-05)

To give students chance to ask questions before the exam, I - Henry - will hold consulting hours tomorrow Thursday from 9am to 12pm, and on Friday from 9am to 11:30am. You can also send email to cs240@uwaterloo.ca or arrange for an alternative meeting time.

Assignment 5 Marks Released (2018-12-05)

The marks for assignment 5 have been released and are available on markus.

Final Exam Help Session Questions (2018-12-01)

The questions that will be covered in the final exam help sessions have been posted on the tutorials page of the course website. This is to give you some time to look at them and try them so that the review sessions will be of greater help to you.

Assignment 5 Solution Posted (2018-11-29)

Final Exam Help Sessions (2018-11-28)

The final exam help sessions will be on Tuesday December 4th 2018. There will be two sessions, each covering the same material. The first session will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and will be conducted by Sajed. The second session will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and will be conducted by Henry. The venue for both sessions is MC 1085.

Assignment 4 Posted (2018-10-31)

Assignment 4 has been posted. The due date is on Wednesday, 14th November 2018, at 5:00pm.

Midterm Post Mortem And Remark Requests (2018-10-27)

You can find the midterm post mortem in the exams page of the course website. You can also begin submitting remark request if you have a problem with how your midterm paper was graded. To do this, send an email to the course email: cs240@uwaterloo.ca. Title your email appropriately so that we may know it is a "Midterm Remark Request" and in the email, explain what questions you want remarked, and what is wrong with the current marking. There will be two weeks interval within which you can submit remark requests. That is, the last day to submit one would be on Friday, 9th November, 2018.

CS240 Midterm ReMark Requests (2018-10-24)

When to submit: *after* checking the Midterm post-mortem posting on the Exams web page (watch for an announcement) until two weeks after the post-mortem posting
How: Refer to the Mark Appeals For midterm on the Course info page *before* submitting any re-mark requests. All re-mark requests must be sent to cs240@student.cs.uwaterloo.ca) with the indicated Subject (we will be using message filters based on Subject.
Results: all re-marks will be processed together after the re-mark request deadline. Requesters will be notified by email or a post when the results are ready.

CS240 Midterm Results (2018-10-23)

You should have received an email to your WatIAM/Quest-userid@uwaterloo.ca with a link to the marking for your CS 240 Midterm. If you did not receive an email, please check your spam folder. If you still cannot find it, log into WatIAM and check your email Mail Routing Address. If you are logging into Crowdmark to see the marking results, you must log in as your-Quest-userid(max. 8 characters)@uwaterloo.ca. The CS 240 midterm is out of 50 and the average is 67.5% (about the usual midterm average for this course). See summary of grades on the Course info page (https://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cs240/cgi-bin/displayMarks.cgi) for your overall midterm mark.
If you have concerns about your performance on the midterm, please speak with your instructor.

No Lectures Thursday And Extra Consulting Hours (2018-10-16)

Midterm Review Sessions (2018-10-11)

The midterm review sessions will be on Saturday. There will be two sessions on that day, one from 11:00am to 1:00pm in MC 4021 (by Sajed), and the other from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in MC 1085 (by Henry).

Since yesterday was thanksgiving, there was no tutorial. However, the questions that would have been covered have been posted on the tutorials page of the course website. Have a look at them, and attempt them. As usual, there would be a poll, and using it, we will choose a question and post a solution to this question.
