Course Description

The course introduces widely used and effective methods of data organization, focusing on data structures, algorithms, and the performance of these algorithms. Specific topics include priority queues, sorting, dictionaries, data structures for text processing.

Midterm Remark Requests (2019-07-05)

We are now accepting midterm re-mark requests via an on-line form on the exams page. Students should check the post mortem (exams page) before submitting. Only requests using the form will be accepted. The Deadline is Fri. July 19, 5:00PM.

CS 240 Midterm Results (2019-07-04)

The CS 240 S19 Midterm results have been released on Crowdmark. The CS 240 midterm is out of 77 marks and the average is 66.6% (comparable to other terms). See summary of grades (https://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cs240/cgi-bin/displayMarks.cgi) on the Course info page for your midterm mark as a percentage. If you have concerns about your performance on the midterm, please speak with your instructor.

Midterm re-mark requests:

When to submit: Do NOT submit until an announcement on procedures is made (they will not be accepted before then). Also, do not submit before reading the midterm post mortem which has been posted on the exam page. The deadline for submitting Re-mark requests will be two weeks after the announcement that we are accepting re-mark requests.

When to expect results: all re-marks will be processed together after the re-mark request deadline. Requesters will be notified by email or a post when the results are ready and after the request is answered in Crowdmark.

Midterm Reference Sheet Posted (2019-06-21)

The midterm reference sheet has been posted on the exam page. This sheet will be provided for each student at the exam. Please look up your assigned seat for the midterm on Odyssey.

A0 Posted (2019-05-07)

Assignment 0 has been posted on the Assignment page. It is due Wed., May 15 at 5:00 PM. It introduces LaTeX, the recommended tool for creating your assignment submission PDFs. We will cover LaTeX and prepare you for Assignment 0 in next Monday's tutorial. The assignment is optional, but awards you up to 6 bonus marks for Assignment 1.

First Tutorial (2019-05-03)

There will be no tutorials held in the first week of classes. They will start on Mon. May 13 with Tutorial 0, which covers LaTeX basics to help with Assignment 0.
