CS 492/CS 692 W14 Role-Playing Exercise 5

Limiting the use of mobile devices in organizations

Team A

A group of advocates for healthy families who maintain that the proliferation of mobile handheld devices within organizations has led to the erosion of family time, forcing employees to be "always on" and thus distracted from duties that take place outside the typical 9-5 working day. They propose that organizations provide clearly set downtimes for connections to the workplace, to enable employees to focus on family issues without repercussion.

Team B

A group of organizational leaders who maintain that mobile devices and the ability to contact employees at opportune times for business (together with the growing borderless gathering of business associates) require that employees make themselves available at times that promote optimal business practices. While they acknowledge the need for some leisure time for all employees, they oppose being required to respect strict terms and conditions for contact.
