CS 492/CS 692 S18 Role-Playing Exercise 10

Smartphones and the Right Against Self-Incrimination

Team A

Some computer scientists believe that they should assist law enforcement in gaining access to a smartphone's files when with a poperly obtained court order, law enforcement needs the assistance of computer scientists to bypass privacy mechanisms, such as passwords, finger strokes, finger prints, and facial images, that prevent all but a smartphone's owners from accessing the smartphone's private and personal contents.

Team B

Other computer scientists believe that they should refuse to assist law enforcement in gaining access to a smartphone's files, because smartphones have become so ubiquitous that each is considered an extension of the owner's self.
