CS 492/CS 692 S20 Role-Playing Exercise 10

Limiting the Use of Intelligent Software

Team A

A group of concerned computer scientists who feel that certain applications of computer software either allow for too much intelligent reasoning and action on the part of the computer, or begin to push the limits of appropriateness, in applications such as humanoid robotics. They are concerned about the consequences of using software for these exceptional purposes, with little provision for human intervention. They propose that legislation be established to limit the potential use of intelligent software.

Team B

A group of artificial intelligence researchers who believe that it is vital to the growth of their discipline to have absolutely no limits on the nature of the applications being developed within the field. They believe that any individual or company desiring the use of intelligent systems be allowed to do so, assuming for themselves the responsibility for any possible undesirable outcomes.
