CS886 - Winter 2016 - In-class Group Exercise (This description is tentative and will be finalized once class size is known). The class will be divided into small groups (groups of 5, for class of 15). Each group will be asked to: a) brainstorm on a specific challenge in social networks and trust modeling that is only revealed at the beginning of the class b) provide an informal presentation of the design (conveyed orally and some blackboard sketching) where all team members must participate c) complete a pencil and paper exercise, demonstrating deep appreciation of the solution developed by the group, answering questions provided, including a projection of the model into a very specific context Part b) will be worth 5 marks. Content and delivery will both be assessed. Each team member will receive the same grade for Part b). Part c) will be worth 5 marks. Analysis and creativity will both be assessed. Each student receives their own assessment for Part c). The Group Exercise is worth 10 marks towards the final grade in the course. NOTE1: The timing for parts a), b) and c) will be roughly 40, 30, 30 minutes. The ideal is to have a slightly larger timeframe for this exercise. We will see what the class size is and then finalize the plans. We may decide to start the class earlier, expanding the timeframe (if no student has a conflict with this), or to allow part c) to be completed outside of class time, or to simply use two classes to complete this exercise, (with Apr 4 then becoming the last day of class). NOTE2: This exercise is intended to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on what they have learned and retained from the course, as well as to gain experience in (and to appreciate) open-ended thinking. My intention is to grade leniently.
